Tachycardia Treatments From Dr David Begley

Tachycardia is a medical condition where the patient experiences a fast resting heart rate, usually over 100 beats per minute.

Tachycardia can be a dangerous issue to have in respect of its underlying cause and on how hard the heart has to work.

This is made all the more hazardous by the fact that some people with tachycardia may have no symptoms or complications at all.

Many others, though, do experience any one of the following symptoms:

  • a fast pulse
  • chest pain
  • confusion
  • dizziness
  • low blood pressure
  • lightheadedness
  • palpitations
  • shortness of breath
  • sudden weakness
  • fainting

However, Tachycardia is treatable and certainly one of Dr David Begley’s specialist areas.

Treatments In More Detail

Depending on the results of the assessment, treatment options will range from management with medicines, catheter ablation or insertion of a cardiovascular implantable electornic device such as a pacemaker or cardioverter-defibrillator.

The main treatments Dr Begley offers include:

Ablation

This can be carried out at the same time as the diagnostic electrophysiology study or at a later stage.

Energy is delivered through one of the wires in your heart to damage the abnormal electrical circuits responsible for your symptoms.

Pacemaker

Pacemakers are small electronic devices that are implanted under the skin below the collar bone.

They are attached to a variable number of wires (leads) which are inserted through a vein to the heart and prevent it from going to slowly.

ICD

Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD) are needed in patients who are at risk of dangerous fast heart rhythms.

In addition to providing pacing they deliver a small electric shock to the heart to restore normal heart rhythm when needed.

Mr Lewington of Nottinghamshire says:

“Suffering from Ventricular Tachycardia, I was looking for a better solution than just palliative drug care.

After research on the web, I met Consultant Cardiologist Dr David Begley and that meeting totally changed my life for the better.

Following investigation, Dr Begley informed me that I was suitable for ablation, a process which other, less specialist, doctors had declined before because mine was “a difficult case”.

From the outset, Dr Begley was careful to explain all aspects of my condition.

He impressed me with his professional but relaxed and friendly manner and I felt free to ask as many questions as I wanted.

After our first meeting, I came away feeling very positive.

My ablation proved to be very successful. Dr Begley gave me back my life.

Before treatment, I was in fear of VT attacks and I had many.

Following treatment, I am able to work and live in a way that was impossible earlier. It is difficult to adequately describe how grateful I am.

I would recommend anybody in a similar situation to follow my path as soon as possible.”
