DR DAVID BEGLEY, CAMBRIDGE HEART SPECIALIST

Knowing that your heart is in good health is vital to ensuring that you live a long and healthy life.  As a Cambridge heart specialist, Dr Begley and his team have been helping patients suffering from cardiac rhythm abnormalities to regain their strength and feel good again.

When our hearts are working well, blood flows through our body and all the important processes happen naturally.  When the heart starts to beat too fast or too slowly, we can start to suffer from a variety of symptoms including:

  • Palpitations
  • Black Outs (Syncope)
  • A fluttering in your chest.
  • A racing heartbeat (tachycardia)
  • A slow heartbeat (bradycardia)
  • Chest pain.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Lightheadedness or dizziness.
  • Sweating.

Of course, there are many disorders of both the mind and the body that can cause these, or similar symptoms, but your GP should be able to refer you for further investigations if he or she thinks it may be your heart that is causing them.

HOW CAN A HEART SPECIALIST HELP?

Because Dr’s like Dr Begley specialise in this one key area of the body, they are highly skilled and incredibly experienced at providing life changing treatments for anyone who suffers from cardiac arrhythmia.

To start off with, Dr Begley will undertake a series of tests to identify what is the cause of your symptoms.  These tests will include:

An ECG – is a simple and useful test which records the rhythm and electrical activity of your heart.

Continuous or intermittent ambulatory ECG – this type of testing records the electrical activity of your heart while you go about your usual activities.

Diagnostic electrophysiology study – this is a test used to understand and map the electrical activity within your heart. It involves placing diagnostic catheters within your heart and running specialised tests to map the electrical currents.

HOW TO FIND A HEART SPECIALIST IN CAMBRIDGE?

If your GP has concerns about your symptoms and would like you to see a heart specialist they will usually refer you via the NHS.  You can, of course, choose to find your own private consultant who will be able to offer a more personalised level of treatment.

Dr Begley and his team can offer you surgery and a treatment plan to help regulate your heartbeat, allowing you to live life without suffering from painful and often worrying symptoms.
