Dr David Begley: Advanced Cardiac Rhythm Management
Dr David Begley is a Consultant Cardiac Electrophysiologist. His expertise is key to the Royal Papworth Hospital’s advanced cardiac services. He completed his medical degree (MB ChB) at Edinburgh Medical School in 1994. This was then followed by three years of research on hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at the National Institutes Health in Bethesda, Maryland. This earned him an MD degree from the University of Edinburgh. Returning to the UK in 2002, he completed specialist training in cardiology and cardiac rhythm management at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. He was also elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in 2009.
Appointed as a consultant in Cardiology at Papworth Hospital in 2007, Dr Begley played a crucial role in expanding its cardiac rhythm management (CRM) team. From 2011 to 2016, he served as the Clinical Lead for CRM.During this time the department consistently remained one of the country’s highest-volume centres for electrophysiology studies, complex ablations, and cardiac device implants. In 2018, Dr Begley became the Clinical Director for Cardiology at Royal Papworth Hospital, underscoring his leadership within the institution.
