Consultant Cardiologist – Royal Papworth Hospital
Consultant Cardiologist, Dr David Begley, is based at the Royal Papworth Hospital which was officially opened this summer.
And Her Majesty The Queen visited the hospital on 7 July 2019 as part of its official royal opening proceedings.
The Royal Papworth Hospital is one of the biggest cardiology centres in the country.
Consequently, if offers dedicated, specialist care and deals with all aspects of the diagnosis, management and treatment of heart conditions in adults.
There are a wide range of non-invasive and invasive diagnostic procedures available at the hospital.
Further, there are interventional procedures for coronary disease, valve disorders, structural heart disorders, and arrhythmias.
All these treatments take place at the Royal Papworth Hospital’s Cardiology Services department.
Dr David Begley’s role at the Royal Papworth Hospital
Dr Begley also holds the position of Clinical Director of the highly-regarded Cardiology Services department.
He is a specialist in treating the symptoms of heart rhythm abnormalities and can offer care from the Royal Papworth.
Patients with heart rhythm disturbances can experience either the heart beating too slowly, i.e. bradycardia.
Or the heart beating too quickly, i.e. tachycardia.
And occasionally, an abnormality detected in an otherwise healthy person will then require further investigation.
Palpitations
The most common symptom that people visit cardiologists for is palpitations.
Conditions associated with palpitations include
- premature ventricular contractions (PVCs or ectopics)
- supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)
- atrial flutter or fibrillation (AF)
- atrial tachycardia (AT)
- ventricular tachycardia (VT)
Syncope (blackouts)
Blackouts or a transient loss of consciousness can be very alarming.
Therefore, prompt assessment, particularly if recurrent, is critical to either provide reassurance or offer treatment.
Blackouts can be due to both cardiac and neurological causes, including:
- simple fainting
- vasovagal syncope
- sinus node disease
- heart block
Find out what his patients say
Mr Lewington from Nottinghamshire received treatment from Dr Begley for Ventricular Tachycardia.
Due to his satisfaction about the treatment of his condition, he says:
“From the outset, Dr Begley was careful to explain all aspects of my condition. He impressed me with his professional but relaxed and friendly manner. And I felt free to ask as many questions as I wanted. After our first meeting, I came away feeling very positive.”
“My ablation proved to be very successful. Dr Begley gave me back my life. Before treatment, I was in fear of VT attacks and I had many. Following treatment, I am able to work and live in a way that was impossible before. It is difficult to adequately describe how grateful I am.”
“I would recommend anybody in a similar situation to follow my path as soon as possible.”
